While in Buenos Aires, I spent 6 days studying with the renowned calligrapher/ artist, Marina Soria in a workshop called ” Calligraphy in Blossom”. This workshop was actually the impetus for our entire trip to Argentina! Marina and her friend, writer and poet Andrea Jauregui, collaborated to guide us in an experimental calligraphy and writing exploration. I will share more about this amazing experience in my October blog post “Things that Bring Me Joy”.
Suffice it to say that I became thoroughly immersed in the experience, learned a lot, and was able to use some new “muscles” – stretching myself in a more abstract – and very freeing way than I am used to with my work. It was quite liberating and stimulating, both from a painting and writing perspective! One of the best parts was the bonding we experienced in our group of 10 women from around the world. I made some wonderful new friends whose talents were all so inspiring! I take this “Calligraphy in Blossom” experience with me in my heart and soul as I continue to grow as an artist.
